NYC BigApps 2017

Thank you to everyone who submitted solutions to this year’s NYC BigApps competition! We received a fantastic response from a wide spectrum of applicants, and we’re excited to announce the finalists early next week. The top submissions from each of the three challenges will present to the Judges for the opportunity to win $30,000 in cash and prizes, including admission into Civic Hall Labs’ civic accelerator program, pro bono legal services from BakerHostetler, and discounted classes at General Assembly. One team may be granted the Judge’s Choice Award – the amazing opportunity to pilot their app on the 600+ LinkNYC tablets located throughout the City’s five boroughs!

Join us as we celebrate another exciting year of the NYC BigApps competition at the Finalist Expo & Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 23rd! At this culminating event, the finalists will showcase their solutions at the Finalist Expo. The Judges will then announce the Grand Prize Winners during the Awards Ceremony, followed by the opportunity to mingle with BigApps partners, mentors, and the broader #NYCBigApps community. Register here!

We’re delighted to announce Esri as a Gold Event Sponsor for the Finalist Expo & Awards Ceremony. Esri applies The Science of Where to unlock data’s full potential in every organization and continues to pioneer real-world problem solving using geographic information systems (GIS). Using this powerful platform to reveal deeper insights in their data, Esri users are creating the maps that run the world.

“For decades now, Esri’s mission has been oriented toward building, improving, and using technology that makes government serve people better, not only operationally, but in a way that provides transparency, and engages citizens involvement that makes a difference,” says Jim Barry, GeoDeveloper Advocate with Esri. “So in this way, for us at Esri, the opportunity to support BigApps is a perfect fit. We look forward to supporting teams’ use of open data, capable technology, and effective design for helping bring their innovative ideas to life and deploy it into the hands of people who can use it.”

At an upcoming workshop, Esri will present its software, developer tools, and cloud-based infrastructure to support team products and services, as well as a Startup Program for those ideas that come from or might turn into a small business. With this partnership, NYC BigApps aims to build off of the Ideation & Prototyping Workshop series that it offered participants and continue to provide tools and resources for civic innovators in New York City.
